Chiesa di Sant’Andrea Apostolo
XVI sec – Chiesa Patronale
During the mid-1700s the ancient church of Sant’Andrea, the matrix and cathedral of Vallerano, threatened to collapse and it was decided to begin construction of a new larger and more monumental church where the fortress of Vallerano once stood. It is a very elegant Baroque building, with a pontifical emblem on its facade. From a stylistic point of view, the church of S. Andrea refers to the Roman architectural current of the mid-eighteenth century, with some typical neoclassical references, the search for space / light harmony, the balance of decorative elements, the chromatic delicacy of stuccoes. Other noteworthy details to note are the four ovals depicting St. Lawrence, St. Stephen, St. Peter, St. Paul. The main painting above the high altar depicts the Virgin in heaven with St. Andrew and St. Victor.
