Situated some 160 metres above sea level, the Church of Santa Lucia occupies an elevated position on a saddle interrupting a steeper ridge. Its roof was still intact in 1910 and reopening it for worship was discussed on more than one occasion. It was not until 2015 that the church was restored and reopened for worship. A completely new roof was installed, while only the outer walls and two remnants of arches springing from the small pillars against the walls were retained. According to tradition, the statue owes its origins to a favour granted by the saint to a worshipper. A man from Tertenia is said to have fallen into a fire one day, burning his legs so badly that he could no longer use them. His father prayed to the saint, promising to purchase a statue of her if his son were cured. The saint accepted his promise and healed his son. The father kept his word and purchased the statue, reserving for himself and his descendants the right to organise the annual celebrations.
