Mount Ortobene
Mount Ortobene is one of the most beloved places for the locals, who affectionately call it Su Monte. Local artists have praised its beauty, healthy air, waters and landscapes. From its summit (Cuccuru Nigheddu, 954 m) you can enjoy a vast panorama over the whole of Barbagia. It is a very important place from a naturalistic point of view: it consists of a granite relief covered by a forest of oaks, strawberry trees and holm oaks. Here 18 species belonging to 9 genera of wild orchids have been recorded. The fauna is also very rich, with the presence of wild boars, spine martens and foxes. Among the birds, the dominant species are the jay and the Sardinian partridge. Also present are the goshawk, the kestrel, the buzzard and the golden eagle. In the locality of Farcana there are accommodation facilities equipped with services and sports facilities, including an outdoor Olympic swimming pool, a riding field, a rifle range and a five-a-side football pitch. On the top of Mount we find a beautiful equipped park and the small church of Our Lady of Mount Nero. On top of a charming and panoramic rock spike stands the famous and imposing Statue of Christ the Redeemer, which is the object of veneration during the feast of the same name that takes place on 29th August.
