It is the old shepherds’ neighbour, the place that preserves and hands down the character and identity of the Nuoro of yore. It is a lovely neighbourhood, in whose silent alleys, the artisan workshops pop up among the majestic granite houses, where you can look out to discover the Nuoro of bygone times. Then you suddenly catch sight of the high and sunny peaks of Mount Ortobene from a window. Today the name Santu Predu refers to a residential settlement which in other times was divided into several neighbours, namely: S’Ispina Santa (Via Sassari), Santu Càralu (Via Alberto Mario), Santa Ruche (Via Farina), Su Sarbadore (Via Malta), Corte ‘e Susu (Via Poerio), and Irillài (Via della Pietà). In the neighbourhood we find the following historic houses: Grazia Deledda’s birthplaces, Francesco Ciusa’s birthplace, the House of Buttresses, the House of the Atelier, Casa Fadda and Casa Chironi.
