Le chiese di Gorla

Small Church of San Bartolomeo

The community of Gorla needed its own religious space. After identifying the ground, a project was designed according to Strada Enrico’s drawing for the construction of the new church/oratory on 16th September 1895. The small space of the oratory bordered the property of Fanny Finzi.

Church of Santa Teresa del Bambin Gesù

In April 1919, the engineer Fausto Strada laid down the project, which was then entrusted for the execution to the Seregni Brothers, from Greco Milanese. The excavation works began in 1922 and were directed by the engineers Rastelli and Guglielmo Pedrazzini. The structure of the Church of Santa Teresa del Bambin Gesù (m 42 x m 17) is made of reinforced concrete; the nave is divided into six spans; the ceiling is made of exposed concrete beams. The church would be promoted to Parish by Cardinal Eugenio Tosi in 1928 and dedicated to the memory of Santa Teresa del Bambin Gesù, the patron of Gorla. At the time of the annexation to the Milanese territory in 1923, the Parish, which already belonged to the Pieve di Bruzzano, was aggregated in 1928 to the first territorial district of Porta Orientale with Porta Tosa and Monforte, although maintaining, as an ecclesiastical jurisdiction, its link with the Parish of S. Maria Assunta in Turro, which was responsible for providing the population of Gorla with religious assistance.
