For Luino, the lake is not merely a natural feature. It is landscape, atmosphere, and lived space. Parco a Lago embodies the symbiotic relationship between the town and its lake: the verdant promenade features a children’s playground, a walkway suspended over the water, spray fountains, and a gently sloping grassy terrace that evokes the movement of the waves.
At its far end, concluding the tree-lined Viale Dante, there is the Rotonda del Marinaio. Built in 1912, it is a semicircular platform extending over the water, adorned with iron railings decorated with floral motifs. At its center there is a bronze anchor resting on a white stone from Baveno quarries: this is the memorial dedicated to the sailors of Luino, inaugurated in 1976.
A short distance beyond, an installation by Roberto Baggio marks the point corresponding to the passage of the 46th parallel of the nothern hemisphere. The work, consisting of a band set into the pavement and an iron style supporting a wind rose, was inaugurated on March 20, 2025, coinciding with the spring equinox. Two triangles indicate the distance separating Luino from the North Pole and the Equator.

In 1979, Vittorio Sereni, together with several distinguished friends including Piero Chiara, Claudio Barigozzi, Pierangelo Frigerio, Pier Giacomo Pisoni and the painter Franco Rognoni, founded La Rotonda, a magazine published by Francesco Nastro and dedicated to Luino and its surrounding area. The publication was conceived as an almanac recording the events of the city year by year, alongside recollections of older stories and memories.
The magazine took its name from the round terrace overlooking the lake, which marks the beginning of the avenue leading to the International Railway Station.
