The wood
The wooded surface of Guardialfiera covers about 649.68.05 hectares so divided: San Nazario coppice forest and San Martino forest of 624.29.85 hectares, Licenelle coppice forest of 21.48.50 hectares and Foresta coppice forest of 3.89.70. The prevalent arboreal species is the oak, it comes after turkey oak, hornbeam, maple, ash and durmast.
The forests of San Martino and San Nazario are the most important, not only for their dimension but also for touristic reasons. The San Martino forest belongs to Guardialfiera’s municipality from 1699, it includes part of the mountain and it expands, from the borders, to Lupara and Civitacampomarano fields. San Nazario forest is divided from San Martino wood by the Vallone delle Forche. There is trace of it since 1309 as domain of rationes decimarum Italie Aprum – Molisium. In this district there was a church and an annexed cloister, entitled exactly to San Nazario.
The forest is an important resource and a touristic attraction. Thanks to his paths is possible a full immersion in the nature and enjoying of Guardialfiera lake’s view. It’s also possible to find pic nic area and children playground.
