Palazzo Fogaccia was built between the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, commission by Count Vittorio Maria Fogaccia, and designed by architect Giovanni Battista Quadrio, who had worked on the Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano. The external rustic brickwork façade is relatively simple, especially compared to the inside, richly decorated by frescoes and Neoclassical paintings. The interiors are a warren of halls and corridors, creating a suggestive and rather mysterious atmosphere. The walls are covered with frescoes depicting mythological and allegorical scenes, while the ceilings are embellished with religious paintings. Some of the most prestigious Lombard painters contributed to decorating its interiors. The huge building soon became a symbol of the social and political prominence of the Fogaccia family, whose motto was “Ni matarme ni spantarme” (You can’t kill nor frighten me). Today, the building is the private residence of the Fogaccia Giovanelli family.
The palace is surrounded by a large park, which houses many species of plants, including some exotic varieties.
