Fornace Verga
We are in the proximity of the Fosso delle Gradelle (Ditch of Gradelle), where the presence of a kiln – referred to as a “brick kiln” – is attested in the Gregorian and Papal Cadastres. The location of the kilns depended on the presence of areas rich in water and clay. Numerous fragments of flat and bent tiles were also found nearby to be related to the nearby production plant as well as a fragment of a tile with a scroll containing the letters AV, probably the initials that stand for the name of one of the kiln owners. Actually, from the land registers it appears that in 1819 the production plant belonged to the Verga family.
