The village that slipped away

This is the story of the long struggle of a resistant “almond”. The typical medieval shape of Appignano has been altered, over the centuries, by continuous landslides.
A natural vulnerability that, while impairing the shape of the town, has not changed its essence, instead it has enhanced its resilience.
If you were here in 1757, over the railing, you would have seen clothes hanging, smoke coming out of the chimneys and scenes of daily life that are gone forever.
If instead you had found yourself here in the year of the unification of Italy, at just a few steps away, you would have met pilgrims and church goers walking towards the church of San Pietro, that also slipped down towards the valley a century later.
“Mutilations” that, no matter what, have not prevented Appignanoās “almond” to continue to bloom and bloom again year after year, century after century and after every trauma.
