8546 is the reference number given to the case file by the civil engineering office of Ascoli Piceno that, in may 1963, decrees the Ā«endĀ» of the church of San Pietro, threatened by Ā«imminent collapseĀ».
Appignano is a vulnerable territory, up against landslides and earthquakes, it resists through time by changing its skin. Sometimes survival is ensured, through painful choices that envolve ancient churches, just like the church of San Pietro, that used to stand right here in this area.
The recurrent seismicity of our area, suggests in 2011 further changes: the nursery school, built in 1920ās, is grouped together with the main school building. It will become the only school building in the province to have seismic vulnerability certificitations before the 2016 earthquake.
The theatre, the Ruritage Hub, a seismograph monitored by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, a weather station and an urban space integrated in the pathway of the gray-blue ravines make this place the core of Appignanoās culture, research and resilience.
