Archaeological Area of Sant’Ansano
It is located just outside the village of Allerona, in the homonymous area – it’s made of the remains of buildings in an exedra shape and all around it has a rich ceramic surface of the 1st and 2nd century AC of the Roman era. Among these, two funerary monuments from the Roman period, 26 stand out, located on the old road. One of them has been converted into a chapel dedicated to Sant ‘Ansano. From what remains it shows that the building, now in ruins, was modest in size, with the apse obtained precisely using a pre-existing Roman structure. In the apse remain traces of a sely using a pre-existing Roman structure. In the apse remain traces of a fresco and of three tombs underlying a probable raised presbytery. The same area reveals conspicuous traces of other presences of the Roman period, such as burial tombs with protection tiles, floors and works of water canalization of a spring, which suggest the presence of a villa or buildings directly related to practical or cult use of the spring.
