Calabrese Arch
This arch dates back to the fifteenth century. It was part of the defence structure of the village, when it was fortified.
Alberona has thirteen arches that formed the “village gates”.
Its particularity lies in the fact that it is the only wooden arch in the area.
It is known as the “Arco Calabrese” and it is located in “Via Calabrese”, testimony to the fact that the first people to settle in Alberona came from several towns in Calabria: Stilo, Pagliarone and Montauro. It is no coincidence that the mountains around Alberona are called Mount Stilo, Mount Pagliarone, and Montauro.
Subsequently, at the end of the 13th century, the Knights Templar took possession of the village, turning it into their own stronghold.
